Fast Facts about Oconomowoc Memorial Auxiliary

Oconomowoc Memorial Auxiliary is a separate, not-for-profit organization that supports ProHealth-Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital. The Auxiliary also provides support to other community non-profit organizations through our Outreach activities.

 

  • The Auxiliary was founded in January, 1954 with 55 charter members. We currently number almost 200 members.
  • The first of many fundraising events was organized in 1954, leading to major annual events that continue today.
  • The Gift Box Boutique was opened in 1967, staffed by volunteers, and continues to be a major fundraising effort by the Auxiliary.
  • A teenage volunteer program began in 1971 with girls called “Candy Stripers” and boys called “Red Coats.” Now known as Volunteens, this remains a popular program for area teens.
  • In 1972, the Auxiliary assumed responsibility for our annual health-related scholarship program. Each year, 12 scholarships are awarded to students in a health-related field of study.

  • The Spring Style Show and Luncheon began in 1977. This event continues today as the Auxiliary’s premier fundraiser.
  • The Tele-Care Program was offered in 1978 staffed by volunteers who continue today to receive daily phone calls checking on the well-being of area residents and their families who request this service.
  • An annual Love Light Tree Celebration was initiated in 1988. This annual program provides opportunities to honor a special person or remember a loved one.
  • In 2014, in partnership with a well-known travel company, the first guided tour program sponsored by the Auxiliary was offered to the community. This program continues as another fundraising endeavor.
  • A Fall Wine Tasting was initiated in 2019 as a new fundraising event.
  • Volunteers serve in a variety of roles at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital. Roles include:  Admitting Ambassador, The Gift Box Boutique cashier and sales, Patient and Family Lounge Ambassador, Home sewing, knitting and crocheting; constructing baby caps, stuffed bears, prayer shawls, quilts, holiday buntings and the like.
